UNC Chapel Hill
An introductory course for economic development professionals employed by public, nonprofit, and private organizations who are new to the field. It is also appropriate for experienced professionals seeking to update knowledge and skills. The course integrates theory and practice, providing the foundation to organize, plan, and implement economic development programs. Expert instructors cover trends, strategies, and core tools of the trade. This course is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), counts toward CEcD certification, and is required for NC Certified Economic Developer (NCCED) designation.
Economic Development Academy | East Carolina University
This program is offered in partnership with NCEDA for economic development practitioners. Through a series of seven modules, participants gain practical knowledge for practicing economic development in North Carolina. Successfully completing all courses leads to North Carolina Certified Economic Developer designation. Courses may also be taken without formal participation in the certification program.
International Economic Development Council (IEDC)
CEcD is the most prestigious designation in the economic development profession, demonstrating breadth of knowledge and enhancing the credibility of your organization. The certification process provides valuable networking opportunities and designation can increase your earning potential. The process includes coursework and an exam.
University of Oklahoma
The premier economic development program in the nation, the EDI provides another pathway to achieving CEcD. Instruction is presented through one and two-week intensives, preparing you comprehensively and more quickly to sit for the CEcD exam. Part of the program can be completed online.
AEDL executive education is an intensive one-week program designed for mid- to senior-level professionals with 5+ years of experience. Hands-on learning focuses on modern economic development strategies, including negotiations, talent development, and investment attraction. Graduates are awarded a Master Economic Development Practitioner (MEDP) certificate.
Economic Development Academy | East Carolina University
Designed for non-practitioners, this training benefits elected officials volunteers, community leaders, business leaders, and others interested in economic development leadership. Seminars are four-hour trainings based in the participating community and tailored to fit the community’s needs.
